Questions from parents
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything parents usually ask us — about learning, safety, settling in and admissions.
Programmes & Curriculum
Carmelite Preschool & Learning Hub offers four programmes: Playgroup (2–3 years), Nursery (3–4 years), LKG (4–5 years) and UKG (5–6 years). Each programme is designed around children's developmental needs, helping them progress towards greater confidence, independence and school readiness.
Our educational approach is inspired by the EYFS framework and guided by child-centred, play-based and activity-based learning. We draw on developmentally appropriate practices and relevant principles of India's National Education Policy (NEP) and National Curriculum Framework for the Foundational Stage (NCF-FS), adapting learning experiences to suit children's developmental stages and Indian context.
Yes, play is an important part of our learning approach. Children explore concepts through hands-on activities, storytelling, music, movement, sensory experiences, creative expression and meaningful interactions. Books and worksheets, where appropriate, complement these experiences rather than replace active learning.
Yes, our goal is to help children develop the foundational skills needed for a confident transition to primary school. This includes early literacy and numeracy, communication, listening, problem-solving, social skills, independence and the ability to participate in classroom routines.
Yes, we recognise that every child learns and develops at a different pace. Through observation, encouragement and developmentally appropriate activities, we aim to understand each child's strengths and support areas that need further practice. We focus on individual progress rather than comparisons between children.
No, we do not believe in rushing children through developmental milestones. We build readiness through fine-motor activities, pencil control, sound awareness, vocabulary, storytelling, pre-writing experiences and playful exploration. Reading and writing skills are introduced progressively as children develop the necessary foundations.
Safety & Hygiene
Yes, CCTV cameras are part of our approach to maintaining a safer and more accountable school environment. Camera coverage is intended to support supervision and security, with appropriate consideration for children's privacy. Any arrangements for parent access to footage will be communicated separately.
Yes, children's safety and well-being are priorities throughout the school day. We aim to maintain attentive supervision during classroom activities, playtime, transitions and other school routines, supported by clear staff responsibilities and child-safety procedures.
Yes, we believe the people caring for young children should be attentive, respectful, hygienic and appropriately suited to their responsibilities. We aim to maintain professional standards of personal grooming, conduct and child-safe care, alongside suitable staff verification and guidance.
We are committed to maintaining a clean, hygienic and well-organised environment for children. Classrooms, furniture, toys and frequently touched surfaces should be cleaned regularly, with appropriate dust control, ventilation and waste disposal practices. Our aim is to minimise dust and maintain a comfortable learning environment.
Yes, the learning environment is intended to support children's age-specific needs, with appropriately sized furniture, accessible learning materials and space for movement, play and exploration. We want children to engage with their surroundings safely while gradually developing independence.
No, children should be released only through the school's authorised collection procedure. Parents or guardians will be asked to provide the details of authorised persons, and the school will communicate its identification and collection requirements during admission.
Yes, regular cleaning and appropriate hygiene practices are essential in a preschool. Toilets, handwashing areas and common spaces should be maintained according to a defined cleaning routine. Children will also be encouraged to develop age-appropriate personal hygiene habits.
Yes, parents will be encouraged to share relevant health information, food allergies and dietary requirements during admission. This information helps us plan appropriate care and communicate with families about their child's needs. Any food arrangements and allergy-management procedures will be explained clearly to parents.
Well-being & Parents
Yes, we understand that separation from parents can be difficult for some children. We aim to make the transition reassuring through warm relationships, predictable routines, play and gradual familiarisation. We will work with parents to understand each child's needs and help them build a sense of security and belonging.
Yes, we believe parents should be informed partners in their child's learning journey. We aim to communicate meaningful updates about classroom experiences, developmental progress, achievements and areas where additional encouragement may help. The channels and frequency of updates will be shared with parents.
Yes, parent partnership is an important part of our philosophy. We encourage open communication between parents and teachers and believe learning becomes more meaningful when children receive consistent encouragement at school and at home. We will share practical suggestions to help parents support learning through everyday conversations, play and reading.
Yes, our approach provides opportunities for children to express themselves, interact with others, make choices, solve simple problems and participate in group activities. Through play, storytelling, creative experiences and everyday classroom interactions, we aim to nurture confidence, communication, cooperation and independence.
